About Borobudur

Borobudur is the world's largest Buddhist temple and one of the greatest Buddhist monuments in the world. Built in the 9th century during the reign of the Sailendra Dynasty, this magnificent temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Indonesia's most visited tourist attraction.

The temple consists of nine stacked platforms, six square and three circular, topped by a central dome. It is decorated with 2,672 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues. The central dome is surrounded by 72 Buddha statues, each seated inside a perforated stupa.

Tips for Visiting

  • Visit at sunrise for the best experience and fewer crowds
  • Wear comfortable shoes - lots of stairs to climb
  • Bring water and sun protection
  • Respect the sacred site - dress modestly
  • Allow 2-3 hours to explore fully

By Motorcycle

  1. Head north on Jl. Magelang
  2. Continue straight through Sleman
  3. Follow signs to Borobudur via Muntilan
  4. Temple parking is on your left
