Batik Workshops
Discover Yogyakarta's iconic textile art
About Batik
Batik is Indonesia's most famous textile art, recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage. Yogyakarta is one of the main centers of batik production, known for its traditional brown and cream patterns with deep philosophical meanings.
The batik process involves applying hot wax to fabric to create patterns, then dyeing the cloth. The wax resists the dye, creating intricate designs. Traditional batik tulis (hand-drawn) can take weeks to complete.
